In today’s economy of massive lay offs and business closures I am finding more and more parents calling for coverage on just their children. These policies can range from great to just plain bad in the coverage spectrum. So I warn you, buyer beware. Here are the things I look for when providing quotes for children health insurance.

Simply put, most consumers don’t have a clue what questions they should be asking brokers before they purchase a health plan. I try to always remember that when dealing with parents only wanting to cover their children and I attempt to only present policies that go above and beyond the normal benefits levels. I think we all will agree that kids have the greatest likely hood of have x-rays and lab work done when visiting their doctor or pediatrician. Rarely do grown up have lab and xrays done when visiting their doctor. Also kids have visit after visit to the doctor peppered with both well baby care and immunizations. When dealing with parents looking to cover only their kids I always focus on policies that will cover both lab and x-rays with just a co-pay rather than have those procedures apply to some goofy $2500 deductible. Regardless of what some health insurance brokers or agents say, those types of policies do exist . I just feel that kids deserve theses benefits.

Another important factor I try to consider is the immunization schedule. All major medical health insurance plans must follow state mandates as it relates to immunizations, basically the are covered up to about age six. Well, my question is what if there are other preventive or well baby visits beyond age six? I feel we should explore coverage that goes out to age 18. Again, those policies do exist, regardless of what someone may tell you.

There are so many policies on the street today offering affordable health insurance for children that have limits on the number of doctor visits. That’s should be a big no-no. I feel we should never limit the number of times kiddos can go to the doctor. Those policies may work fine for grown adults that may go to the doctor no more than two times a year but I feel it will totally upset a mom or dad that gets told at the pediatrician they must pay in full for any future doctor visits. I just will not present these policies and you should stay away from them too with little kids.

OK, another benefit that most policies do not cover is emergency room treatment without a deductible being satisfied. Virtually every policy requires a deductible and co-pay to be met before receiving treatment in an emergency room. Again, if your kids have a $2500 deductible you are basically paying for the entire emergency room treatment out of your pocket. There are a few policies available that offer ER treatment or Urgent Care facility coverage with only a small co-pay.

I think it’s a given that whatever children’s health insurance policy you purchase should be a major medical policy with lifetime maximums of somewhere around $3 or $5 million dollars. That should be common. And having coverage for all the big items like cancer and trauma will most likely be covered and you probably already know to look for those things.

Now, who is delivering on the benefits I have mentioned above? Well, there are a few. Unicare will defiantly stand above the rest in this type of policy. Aetna has an excellent policy that encompass most of the above mentioned benefits as well. World Insurance Company also has introduced a nice policy that should do the job in providing health insurance for children.

From a monthly price stand point I think Unicare will most likely be the best option for consumers. Unicare may be a tad more expensive than companies like Blue Cross and Blue Shield or Cigna but they just flat out blow them away when it comes to benefits for kids.

So if you are finding the harsh economy is making it more and more difficult to afford health insurance coverage on the entire family and thoughts of canceling your policy have crept into your thought process STOP. Let’s take a quick look at finding affordable health insurance for your children.

Both children and students require health insurance coverage. Finding the right plan for your child can be a tedious, but not impossible process if you have some help.

Health Insurance for Children

The State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP), which is a plan called Title XXI, was passed by Congress in 1997. SCHIP was approved in order to deal with the growing number of children in the United States who did not have any kind of health insurance. The incomes of many American families were high enough that they wouldn’t get approved for Medicaid. However, their incomes still weren’t that large to enable them to afford private health insurance policies for their children. With the SCHIP coverage, a family is charged only 5% of their gross income. Many are even able to receive it free of cost.

The policies for health insurance plans for children differ from one state to another. However, all states are mandated to provide coverage for a minimum healthy baby and healthy child physicals, immunizations and emergency services that a child may need in the future.

If you already have a health insurance policy for your child, be it under your group insurance plan or any other insurance plan you have, your child does not qualify for the state’s coverage.

Do some research if you discover that your children are not eligible for state coverage. Oftentimes it may be more economical if you get a policy that covers your entire family. It is certainly better than having each of your children covered by individual policies. However, you can go for an individual policy if you only have one child.

Health Insurance for Students

Most universities have a health care clinic where students can go for minor ailments. However, you cannot, and shouldn’t, rely solely on university and school owned clinics to take care of your child’s health and well-being. You need to get a health insurance plan for your child that will cover any emergencies and surgeries.

As a student, your child has several options for health insurance coverage. The best option is to have your child covered by your policy. Most family group heath insurance plans will provide coverage for your child as long as he or she is attending school and is actively enrolled. Ask your insurance agent if any changes need to be made on your policy with regards to your child’s health insurance coverage, and if this is possible at all.

If you need an individual student health insurance policy for your child, there are many choices available to you. However, be careful in choosing the policy. Conduct some due diligence on your part by researching, gathering information and comparing policies. Exactly what kind of coverage do you need? What’s the maximum amount of coverage do you need? What about the deductibles? Don’t hesitate to ask questions whenever you have some doubts or you don’t understand something. Get to know what an insurance health company will cover and what it won’t cover for your child. If you are sending your child to school in another country, ask if you need to pay extra for the period your child is overseas. Investigate and carefully choose a policy to ensure that your child’s college life won’t be riddled with problems when it comes to their health insurance.

Group health insurance has been one of the greatest things that has happened to families in the past few years, group health insurance gives entire families health insurance coverage because one of the family members has insurance at work, and through that one person the entire family can receive coverage. This type of health insurance can be very helpful for families where there is only one parent taking care of the family or only one parent working. Without affordable group health insurance many families would be falling apart trying to keep their children and families healthy. When children are young they are very susceptible to sickness and illness and often need to go to the doctors office for sick visits, so under an affordable group health insurance policy they are covered by the insurance company when they get sick. This type of insurance also helps parents stay healthy when trying to raise their children while maintaining a full-time job. Children look up to their parents and watch what they do in situations and try to emulate them when they are growing up, and by parents demonstrating good methods when it comes to being sick and receiving proper care will help children learn to do the same thing.
Group health insurance is normally one of the least expensive types of insurance, which makes it relatively affordable for families, and in many of these cases the employer pays the entire cost of insurance. For many employers there is an option of different types of plans, some of the different types of affordable health insurance plans are fee-for-service, health maintenance organization, or even a preferred provider organization. Fee-for-service is normally a popular choice for many employees who are looking for affordable group health insurance because not only gives coverage and doesn’t leave families with the burden of high costs of medical bills, but it also is a pay as you go, you aren’t required to pay a monthly rate which can sometimes can be too costly for families.
One of the biggest questions asked about group health insurance is what happens if you quit your current job that is providing you and your family affordable group health insurance? Normally the group health insurance is terminated, unless you want to pay for it individually which can become very costly. Although, there are laws requiring companies of 20 people or more to offer health insurance to employees for 18 months after they are fired or quit their job, which is something you definitely want to look into when you are looking for affordable rates. You will be charged a higher premium then when you were working but for many families this is the difference between staying insured and leaving family members without any insurance. So in essence it is very important for people to remain on their same insurance if that is an option after leaving a job.

Children need regular medical care to grow up healthy and strong, and children’s medical insurance is necessary to provide the ongoing care they need. Here’s how to get inexpensive medical insurance for children with a reliable company. Government Health Insurance Programs for Children

Every state in the U. S. has a government sponsored health insurance program that covers babies, children, and teenagers. These programs are available to low-income families at little or no cost. They pay for doctor visits, hospital fees, and prescription medicines.

To find out if you’re eligible for a government health insurance program and to learn more about these programs, visit the U. S. Department of Health & Human Service’s Insure Kids Now website at: insurekidsnow. gov. Private Health Insurance Plans for ChildrenIndemnity (fee-for-service) plan – If you don’t qualify for government health insurance and want a plan that allows you to use your own doctor and hospital, then an indemnity plan is what you want. These plans pay most of your medical expenses (usually 80%) after you pay a deductible of anywhere from $500 to $2,000. Indemnity plans are the most expensive health insurance plans. Managed health care plan (HMO, PPO, POS) – If you want a plan that will save you the most amount of money, but doesn’t allow you to choose your doctor or hospital, then a managed health care plan (HMO, PPO, POS) is what you need. These plans assign you to a network of hospitals and doctors which you use for your health care. PPOs and POSs will allow you to choose a non-network doctor for an added fee. With these plans you pay a co-payment for each doctor visit (usually $5 to $10), and your insurer pays the medical bill. These plans are the cheapest health insurance plans. Inexpensive Private Medical Insurance for Children

To find inexpensive medical insurance you have to comparison shop, and the quickest and easiest way to do that is to go to an online comparison website where you can get rate quotes from a number of companies. Insurance premiums can vary by hundreds of dollars for the same insurance, so the few minutes you spend at an insurance comparison site will be well worth you while.

Visit http://www. LowerRateQuotes. com/health-insurance. html or click on the following link to get children’s medical insurance rate quotes from top-rated companies and see how much you can save. You can get more insurance tips in their Articles section, and get answers to your questions from an insurance expert by using their online chat service.

In most cases cosmetic surgery is considered optional and as such, most health insurance plans will not cover it. There are instances, however, when cosmetic surgery is medically necessary and is thus, covered under health insurance plans. For example, if you are in an accident such as a fire or automobile accident, especially when injuries to your face result, this falls into the category of medical treatment rather than surgery solely for cosmetic reasons. The same holds true for some conditions with which you are born that can cause problems with your vision, smell, hearing, or eating.
In young children, health insurance often covers cosmetic surgery for conditions that appear to be cosmetic in nature but that may have a detrimental effect on their emotional growth and well-being. There are certain things that are important to children that should be of less importance to adults. Appearances that are harmed because of some type of gestational or early childhood condition should not deter their emotional growth. Fortunately, insurance companies understand this when it comes to children, but in adults, it’s a different story. Unless you need cosmetic surgery for a condition that is accident-related or is inhibiting your bodily functions in any way, they will not pay.
Of course, it is not fair to say insurance companies should cover all cosmetic surgery, because some people are just vain and have no justifiable reason to undergo cosmetic surgery. There needs to be a standard for treatment. However, it shouldn’t have anything to do with age, but rather the physical or emotional impact the condition has on the patient. Too many times it is assumed that adults bear less emotional scars as a result of a disfiguring condition, but that is not always true.
Health insurance covers any kind of accident related injury, including those caused by fire, automobile accident, or any kind of chemical or other type of spill that affects the skin. We mostly think of severe burns when skin grafts are necessary, but sometimes even severe cuts require the skill of a plastic surgeon in order to prevent permanent scarring, especially in young children. Cosmetic surgery has come a long way in the past few years, and conditions that were untreatable even a couple of decades ago can now be treated. Even now conditions that were once considered cosmetic are fully covered by health insurance because of the effect on both the physical and emotional health of the patient.
Of course, there are some things that insurance companies should cover that they still consider cosmetic in many cases, such as removal of skin cancer lesions, scars from moles and acne, and other types of “minor” skin imperfections. Sometimes even for adults, insurance companies consider scars from injuries cosmetic, even if they are obvious enough to cause the patient to feel self-conscious. There needs to be a standard that applies to all of humankind, no matter what the age or gender. Until that happens, one can only say that insurance companies are discriminatory when it applies to cosmetic surgery financing.
